Recreation is a distinct pleasure at Doonbeg with a variety of activities to choose from, Doonbeg Golf Course which is onsite was officially opened in 2002, and was immediately designated as Golf Digest's "Best New International Course." Maybe the last true links course to be built in either Ireland or England, Doonbeg golf course in Clare is ideally situated between two of Ireland's other top ranked courses, Ballybunion and Lahinch, making it one of the best golf breaks Ireland. There is a wealth of activities both onsite including fishing, bicycle trip, a stunning mile long beach not to mention the extensive array of activites which lie just beyond our doorstep, from horseback riding to rock climbing, deep sea fishing to dolphin watching there is somehting for everyone.

Award-winning chef Tom Colicchio, the force behind the huge success of New York City's Gramercy Tavern and Craft, has applied his culinary style and influence to the dining experience at Doonbe - fr! om gastronomic favourites at the informal Darby's Pub to more creative international dishes in the Long Room.

Named after the white foamy crowns of the rolling Atlantic waves, the White Horses spa was designed by internationally renowned Irish-born designer Clodagh and opened in 2006. Inspired by the natural environment of Co. Clare, regenerative treatments using local natural salts, seaweeds, algae, and herbal extracts recall the ancient wisdom of ritual healing. Guests can enjoy body scrubs, Thai and Swedish Massage, Basalt Stone Massage, Sea Spirulina and Mud Body Wraps, Aromatherapy and Reflexology, all adding to the overall experience of staying in one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.

Beach
The Lodge at Doonbeg is perched overlooking Doughmore Bay, which is widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest surfing beaches. The 2 mile stretch of sandy beach is perfect for a causal stroll or a even an energetic run.

Ecological Tourism
The Loop Head Peninsula located to the south of The Lodge at Doonebg is an area of Eco Tourism. It is bounded on the north and west side by the Atlantic Ocean and on the south by the River Shannon estuary with barely one mile of land saving it from island status meaning it has one of the highest ratios of coastline to land surface in Ireland.
Fishing - Fly
The Lodge at Doonbeg provides two onsite fishing ponds where guests can engage in fly fish for Brown and Rainibow Trout. We can provide a qualified ghillie to offer instruction to beginners.
Fishing - Ocean
Guests may also choose to venture onto the waters of the Atlantic with a either a half day or full day deep sea fishing excursion departing from Doonbeg pier - Deep sea fishing where you will fish for Bass, Monkfish and Cod.
Golf Driving Range
The driving range holds 20 bases with targets. It is available to all golfers in residence.
Golfing
Chosen for his "least disturbance philosophy," the course was designed by two-time British Open Champion Greg Norman. Spanning 1.5 miles of crescent shaped beach and century-old sand dunes, the course offers views across the Atlantic from the green, the fairway, or tee of 16 of the 18 holes.
Hiking
The Lodge at Doonbeg is situated overlooking one of Ireland's most picturesque beach's - Doughmore Beach, which offers 2 miles of glorious sandy beach perfect for a refreshing coast line to walk.
Horseback Riding
We are happy to make arrangements for guests at a nearby equestrian centre who cater for all levels from beginner - novice - intermediate through to advanced level and for both children and adults.
Scuba Diving
The coastline of the Loophead Peninsula is a natural base for diving. Kilkee has a dedicated diving centre fully equipped and professionally manned by highly qualified diving instructors. The keen amateur will already be aware of this centre because the great Jacques Cousteau declared that it was the best diving spot in Europe. The Kilkee Dive Centre is a fully-equipped SCUBA diving centre which caters to both beginners and experts. Divers can go to depths from 10 metres (32 feet) to 45 metres (147 feet). The diverse marine life attracts divers from around the world. For beginners there is a trial dive in the shallow waters of Kilkee Bay to introduce them to the exciting underwater world.

There are a variety of options for shopping with a host of craft and gift shops located along the cost to the north and south of the resort.

Directions to Hotel
As you leave Shannon airport you will notice signs for the N18 to Ennis. On arrival in Ennis follow the signs for Kilrush/Kilkee Continue on the (N68) to LISSEYCASEY. From Lisseycasey continue on N68 to junction with R484 (Knockalough). Turn right onto R484 (sign-posted KILMIHIL + DOONBEG GOLF CLUB) Continue on R484 through Kilmihil to junction with R483. Bear right onto R483 (Mind the narrow bridge) and continue on R483 to CREEGH. Turn left R484 (signposted KILKEE + Doonbeg Golf Club) Continue on R484 to junction with N67 (be careful as this is a dangerous turn) For THE LODGE AT DOONBEG - at T-junction turn right onto N67 About 2 miles from this turn is the entrance ON YOUR LEFT for The Lodge. You will notice 3 large flag poles as you approach the entrance.
